Document Accessibility

Inclusivity and diversity are vital to growing and strengthening the tabletop RPG community. So it’s just as vital to make sure that as many players as possible are able to access our games. To that end, I provide document accessibility services, available at flexible rates on an as-needed basis. Depending on the complexity of the document(s) to be reviewed, I may require that we start with a Document Accessibility Review and discuss my evaluation to determine if it is best for me to make the corrections, or if the designer(s) need to go back and make changes themselves.

Accessibility Consulting

Accessible design works best when it’s considered from the beginning. This service will bring me in as a consultant to advise you, your editors, your designers, etc. on how to create accessible documents before the document design process begins. I will provide feedback, advice, and input throughout document development, and will review documents as they are completed to ensure accessibility standards are met. The standard rate for this is $40 per hour.

Document Accessibility Review

At this level, I will review the document for accessibility issues and provide you with written feedback on what needs to be corrected, along with links to resources to help make those corrections. This is the less-expensive option, but will require you to do additional work. The standard rate for this is $30 per hour.

Document Accessibility Revision

At this level, I will revise your document to make it more accessible. This will include things like read/tab order, alternative text/captions on images, headings, white space, table formatting, color use, and more. Documents in alternative formats, such as accessible character sheets, can also be created. You will receive highly accessible documents in return, but given the level of work involved, it is more costly. The standard rate for this is $50 per hour.

Submission Guidelines

All documents must be submitted as Word documents (.doc or .docx) or PDF files. It must be “publisher ready;” that is, all colors, graphics, fonts, layouts, etc., should be set as if for the final, published product. Before committing to a job, I require a representative sample that includes 5% of the total page count. If you have a specific style guide that you are working from, please share that as well.
